5G and The Pandemic; get some answers.
While going through my Facebook news feed I came across a particular comment section where people were expressing their many views on the coronavirus pandemic, I was particularly surprised to see many people still pointing accusing fingers at the 5G network as the real cause of the wide spread pandemic, citing the Lagos city government as part of those perpetuating the act by laying multi-colored cables around the state which they said are for spreading the 5G across the country, never mind that 5G hasn't even been deployed in Nigeria yet and those cables are fibre optic cables used by telecom operators to expand their networks.
So with the sad knowledge that most people are still ignorant about the facts and myths been circulated in our countries and around the world, I decided to do some research and try to answer some frequently asked questions concerning the 5G network and coronavirus.
It's also very important you do your own personal research on the internet for verification about anything including what I say here, note! that I said the internet and not social media as I've come to realize that most be People get all their information from social media platforms, which is wrong. You should check for accurate and diverse information on internet search engines like, chrome, firefox, opera mini, etc and not social media platforms, and also beware of websites that spread falsehoods.
Let's begin...
What really is 5G?
5G is a fifth generation wireless network technology used to communicate between mobile devices, and yes! you read right, fifth generation. That means there have been other generations before 5G like the 4G we use, also called the fourth Generation network. The first ever network was the first generation (1G) and so on and presently the 5G network of today.
As technology like phones evolved so did the various networks, so basically 5G is the latest version of the networks in use today. It's like a latest brand of a mobile phone being launched but instead of a phone, its a network. Also the 5G network has already been deployed in over 35 countries and counting.
Is 5G harmful to the human health and environment?
Are your phones harmful? has any of your gadgets caused you any direct health damage?
duh...no!
What about radiation?
It will interest you to know that that most technological devices and networks emit a radio frequency electromagnetic energy (physics jargon!), these sort of radiations are known as non-ionizing radiation, and this is because they do not have sufficient energy to cause health hazards.
On the other hand, radiations which are of a higher frequency, such as ultraviolet rays from the sun, X-rays, and so on are more powerful and as such are harmful to humans, these sort are known as ionizing radiation.
However several studies show that prolonged exposure to radio-frequency electromagnetic energy increases the risk of cell damage and possibly cancer, this means that all wireless communication technologies could be potentially harmful and not just 5G.
So in summary if you consider the 5G network harmful then you should also be equally weary of all technological devices, some even have higher energy than the 5G network.
Is 5G the cause of COVID-19?
No! No! and No!
that someone would even think that... well let's not go there for now.
COVID-19 is an infectious respiratory disease caused by a new strain of the corona virus, and if you knew what a virus is you'd know that it has nothing to do with radiation as radiation is the primary way in which one could get harmed IF 5G emitted harmful radiation.
COVID-19 is spread through direct or indirect contact with infected Persons and not through 5G network masts. It's also important to note that Corona virus has been around long before even the first generation networks, it was first seen in the 1960's while the first generation network (1G) was launched in 1983. Now how would you explain a relationship between any network technology and a virus that has long existed before any network?
I reiterate, we should be vigilante against widespread conspiracies and fake news, spreading false information is more dangerous than the actual virus! fake news are misleading and undermine public health safety, as they make people lax and look past the real problems and solutions of the disease and believe causes that aren't true.
The World Health Organization (WHO), as well as many health organizations and institutions have made it clear that, the 5G network has nothing to do with the coronavirus pandemic.
Why then is there 5G, what are it's advantages?
All the various generations of network's have improved technology in diverse ways as they evolved, with the succeeding generation being better than the last. Networks have made electronic mails (emails), mobile bank transfers, online gaming and video streaming and many more possible.
The 5G networks brings us even more advanced tech and opportunities, let's look at a few;
- 5G network has made the concept of driver-less cars, buses and trains possible, presently the US and China have begun the use of self-driving vehicles, if you didn't quite catch that this means vehicles won't need drivers anymore, and as scary as it sounds due to the impact of the 5G network these vehicles will be able to driver safely and far more efficiently than humans ever could.
- Phones and other devices will be able to make use of faster and high speed networks with 5G, this means you can download and upload anything you want on the internet faster than the current 4G network, in fact experts say that full scale adoption of the 5G network will make the internet speed up to 100 times faster than the current 4G network. awesome right?
- With 5G technology hospitals can now adopt remote surgeries, that is, using robot intermediaries to perform surgeries without having to be physically present during a surgery. Practically this means a doctor can be in a different location and operate on a patient. Hard to swallow? just go to YouTube and search on remote surgeries then prepare to get your mind blown.
- And the most exciting... Hologram calls! if you have watched science fiction movies like star wars and the likes, you would know what a hologram call looks like and for those who haven't, a hologram call is simply a three dimensional projection of the caller in real size, more like seeing the person physically but no longer through a screen. Sounds like magic right? just visit YouTube. In fact presently, Microsoft's holograms can communicate in different languages without needing an intermediary.
Generally speaking with 5G network we're looking at increased network availability, reliability and enhanced mobile Broadband's, efficient use of artificial intelligence, access to cloud space and more.
So this are just a few applications of the 5G technology without getting into much computer jargon.
Is 5G without any disadvantage?
As with all new technological innovations there's bound to be disadvantages, especially in reoccurring issue like security, cyber hacking, espionage and of course the alleged mass surveillance of individuals by government agencies through the internet. So basically if something can be used for good purposes it can also be used for the wrong reasons, this has and will always been applicable to every network and technology.
There you have it! 5G network, hope this post was helpful? and if you have any questions, contributions or a different opinion about anything then don't forget to hit the comment section and talk away.
And more importantly, like I said from the beginning, make researches, get verifiable facts from the right sources, watch videos from renowned bodies, and make sure your informed.
Stay safe.
